When I was close to finishing my engineering degree, I outlined some of my views
on the value of and my enthusiasm for education. Then I dropped the matter until I was
certain I would actually graduate! (An administrative
snafu could have sent me into yet-another quarter... .) Somehow, this
jotting got left behind. But my thoughts about education--its
challenges, its
inspiration, liberation, plus its inestimable worth--have never varied.
Paraphrasing H. G. Wells slightly, “the future of humanity is
fast becoming a race between education and catastrophe.”
