Humankind is imbued with a natural drive to continue, to persevere, to reach toward the summit of our character even when we are face with great obstacles.
I believe that the human heart is innately good--that conscience guides most of humankind toward the right goals, the highest ethic. That, were this not the case, humanity would have gone extinct millennia ago in a conflagration of selfishness.
Similarly, I think that the majority of those who follow paths that lead to an inner harmony, stride toward the light of virtue and courage. That in doing this, we walk toward contentment.
