        Throughout the years I spent working on my engineering degree it was common for a bunch of us to get together to solve problems cooperatively. We helped each other; we learned from one another's failures and successes.

        Individualism and competition was evident on projects and during exams, of course. That gave us our rankings and spurred everyone to do even better.

        On reflection, however, we gained far more by sharing what we could share; working synergistically instilled a sense of harmony, of balance among the group.
