Throughout the years I spent working on my engineering degree it was common for a bunch of us to get together to solve problems cooperatively. We helped each other, we learned from one another's failures and successes.

Individualism and competition was evident on projects and during exams, of course; that gave us our rankings and spurred everyone to do even better.

On reflection, however, we gained far more by sharing what we could share; working synergistically instilled a sense of harmony, of balance among the group.

Pushing Back the Jungle

Cooperation is synergy of harmony and love.
From the sunlight of sharing, progress flowers.
Humankind has survived millennia
because cooperation precedes competition.

Individualism sometimes yields brilliant
results; cooperative efforts, maximum.
Monumental achievements are borne from teamwork. 1

We draw strength from one another when the beachhead
of cooperation is both means and end,
when the profits of sharing are bestowed.

The world gains by sharing whatever is sharable.
Pushing back the jungle of selfishness
gives birth to opportunities
for the synergizes of balance, harmony, and love.
