For years I bore a grudge toward a woman who had treated me wrongly at one workplace. She had committed the ultimate sin by condemning my performance. This was during a contract job that lasted barely five months. My hard feelings endured years, although buried in the mist of memory. Years later, by sheerest chance, I learned that the woman who had berated me that morning had just learned she had cancer. Sometimes life asks that we show kindness and forgive others whether or not they ask our pardon. Letting enmities go can be genius!
Through the pure spring of empathy we understand forgiveness. The valiant have courage to forgive. Excuse whomever seeks our pardon. Forgiving old enmities and injuries salves the heart. Times will come on this twisting journey when we will welcome reciprocal generosities. Untying the knots that binds our agonies may take years, but the resolution will prove its rewards. Success is sometimes wrought by the nobility of compassion, just as victory through the genius of forgiveness. |
